Project
Tame Valley Wetlands was in the midst of a £2.5 million programme of conservation and heritage investment, designed to enhance habitats for wildlife while reconnecting people with the landscape around them.
As the site evolved, there was a need for a cohesive interpretation space that could guide visitors through the wetlands, explain the surrounding ecology clearly, and encourage deeper exploration across the site.

Our approach
We worked closely with the Tame Valley Wetlands team to define audiences, key themes, and learning outcomes, ensuring the interpretation was rooted in both place and purpose.
Our approach focused on clarity, accessibility, and a strong sense of discovery, using layered content so visitors could engage at different depths depending on their interests and time on site.
A central part of the solution was a family of large-scale, easy-to-read map design elements, paired with interpretation panels positioned at key moments along the route. Each point was designed to feel integrated into the landscape, creating a connected story rather than a set of isolated stops.

Solution
ABG Design delivered a suite of interpretation features that brought the Tame Valley Wetlands story to life through integrated exhibition design and interpretation design. The final visitor experience included large-format maps, information points, and an interactive discovery feature that helped visitors explore the variety of species that call Tame Valley home.
Alongside the interpretation, we developed a coordinated package of signage & wayfinding to support navigation and reinforce the visitor journey.
We also managed the interior design of the visitor space, ensuring the look and feel aligned with the outdoor interpretation and created a consistent, welcoming experience across the site.
