Project
The Palace of Westminster is one of the world’s most recognisable heritage buildings and a working seat of democracy.
With thousands of visitors arriving each year, the Houses of Parliament needed a clearer, more consistent signage and wayfinding system for the main public areas.
The brief covered the full visitor journey, from ticket purchase through security and entry, to navigating key spaces across the estate. The new sign design had to support accessibility and smooth flow, while being sensitive to the building’s exceptional architecture and historic fabric.

Our approach
ABG Design developed a robust wayfinding strategy that mapped visitor movement, decision points, and pinch areas to create a simple, intuitive route through the Palace. We designed a clear hierarchy of information, ensuring visitors could orient themselves quickly without visual clutter.
Visually, the signage took subtle cues from the Palace’s architectural details, allowing the system to feel embedded in place rather than imposed upon it. Materials, scale, and positioning were carefully considered so the signage design enhanced navigation while preserving sightlines and the character of the interiors.

Solution
ABG Design delivered a new wayfinding and signage suite for the principal visitor areas of the Houses of Parliament. The system provides clear, accessible guidance from arrival to exit, supporting a welcoming and dignified visitor experience in a complex, high-profile environment.
The result balances modern clarity with heritage sensitivity, creating confident pathways through the Palace while letting the architecture remain the hero. This project remains one of ABG Design’s most prestigious commissions, and the team was proud to contribute to the visitor experience within such an iconic national landmark.
