Our approach
ABG Design won a competitive tender to lead the full sign design, signage design, and map design for the city centre. We worked closely with the Council to understand pedestrian movement, arrival points, and priority routes, then developed a clear hierarchy of information across totems, maps, and on-street elements.
A key part of the approach was creating new town maps that feel contemporary and easy to read, while celebrating Doncaster’s character. We produced a detailed 3D map style to showcase major buildings and projects, with a focus on the emerging cultural civic centre and the town’s iconic markets. Walking times and simple keys were integrated to support quick, everyday use.
Solution
ABG Design delivered a coordinated wayfinding signage suite for Doncaster city centre, including welcome totems, directional signs, and a family of new town maps.
The totems introduce visitors to the place with clear orientation and bite-size historical facts, while the maps present the centre as a connected, walkable cultural destination.
The result is a legible, friendly signage and wayfinding system that improves navigation, supports regeneration goals, and helps Doncaster present itself with confidence to residents and visitors alike.
