Project
The University of Liverpool is a large, city-based campus woven through busy streets, historic buildings, and modern facilities.
As part of a wider campus enhancement programme, the University needed a coherent signage & wayfinding strategy that could simplify navigation for students, staff, and first-time visitors across a complex, multi-site environment.
Accessibility was a priority, with the system required to support wheelchair users, people with limited mobility, and families moving through the campus.

Our approach
ABG Design worked closely with the University to map real routes, arrival points, and decision moments across the estate.
We developed a clear information hierarchy for external navigation, making sure signs were legible at distance and consistent across different architectural contexts.
To support inclusive movement, we designed primary directional signs to feature distance-led information prominently. This helped visitors plan routes confidently, choose the easiest paths, and understand walking effort before setting off.

Solution
ABG Design delivered a campus-wide external signage and wayfinding system, implementing over 300 new signs across the University.
The scheme provides clear, reliable orientation through the city campus, helping users move between buildings, departments, and facilities with ease.
By combining a robust wayfinding strategy with accessibility-first sign design, the system strengthens the everyday campus experience and supports the University’s long-term vision for a more connected, welcoming estate.
