St. Mary’s Lydiard Tregose

St Mary’s Lydiard Tregose holds over 1,000 years of history. From the legacy of the St. John family to the story of Thomas Becket, this church contains artefacts and wall paintings that offer a glimpse into England’s broader history.

ABG Design has been working closely with the church for several years, producing mini-exhibitions and various printed materials. Our latest project was to design a large exhibition detailing the church’s history, the St. John family, and the many artefacts uncovered within the grounds and walls over the centuries. The exhibition is housed within a beautifully crafted oak cabinet that can be folded away during events and services. When opened, the cabinet reveals a meticulously designed set of display panels.

In addition to the exhibition, we also assisted the church with exterior wayfinding, as St. Mary’s sits within Lydiard Park, a historic estate encompassing over 260 acres of curated parkland.

St Mary’s is also home to a polyptych that was hand-painted over 400 years ago. This artwork traces the St. John family tree, showing their ties to the Royal House of Tudor, and consists of 11 life-sized painted panels. Regarded as one of the best-preserved monuments of its kind in England, it required a preservation-friendly display for visitors. We were tasked with creating a miniature version, which can now be viewed at the church.
